Happy Thanksgiving - A cynics perspective

It's that time of year again. Turkey time. Seems like only yesterday we gathered round the table to give thanks, and here we are again, doing it all over. I don't want to sound cliche, and talk about how fast time flies, but I will - time does fly.
Before we know it it will be 2005, and we'll be having Thanksgiving Turkey dinner again- tomorrow.
Your favorite fat-bellied uncle will be there, your mother, trying to make dinner seem as pretentious as it possibly can, in order to disguise the pig-like reality of your house the other 364 days of the year, your other drunk uncle will be there too, although, he comes prepared, drunk before dinner. Your dad will most likely be in front of the t.v all day, popping open a fresh bruskee - one after the other. Your annoying aunt will show up, you know the one who always asks if you have a boyfriend yet - but your independent ass always claims "I'm too busy". Your brothers, will avoid the kitchen all day because your mother will be damned if they eat the Jello before the guests arrive and ... Am I getting off on a tangent? Oh, right! Thanksgiving! Yeah, so give thanks to the Man upstairs for that crazy family of yours, that fat ass Turkey in the oven and German beer !
Happy Thanksgiving.
Now go get drunk.

Mind-Boggling Phenomena

There is an inexplicable phenomena going on right now which has baffled scientists, astronauts and the intelligenstia alike. A rather serious issue which has perplexed the minds of scholared academics everywhere. An issue, that involves each and everyone of us. An act, endemic in our every day lives, prevalent in our daily household.
What the hell happens to the socks in the dryer? Where do they go? We put them in, pair by pair, yet half of them come out in singles. As if we were throwing married couples in there who, during wrinkle-free cycle, decided to get a divorce.
So what happens to these "missing" socks? This has baffled scientists for years. I don't expect you to have an answer. Perhaps there is a sock universe in the dryer machine?( much akin to the explanation Seinfeld gives to us) Maybe, a sock community, built into each and every universal dryer, which takes the socks back to where they originally belong, in sock land, with Lamb Chop.

To Lenice in Texas

Lenice,
I sincerely appreciate the posts, quotes and articles you have provided. You are an intelligent woman yourself, and I am happy we can be civil about our differences in opinion. You are entitled to your own as much as I am entitled to mine. We are product of our environment indeed.
And your "Bratz" comment was pretty funny too.
A friend in NY,
Maya

To anyone else who reads this - friend or foe, democrat or republican, east or west, I appreciate all comments, questions queries and suggestions.

Fashionista Wednesday Barbie Blog

Fashionista Monday this week will have to be moved to Wednesday and for those of you who were lost just turn to Barbie.
She has presentable clothing etiquette in every situation. She is always dressed for the occasion. Tennis Barbie is always prepared with her tennis skirt and matching tennis bracelet. Street Barbie is complete with her boombox and tracksuit set. Prissy Barbie is packaged with heels to match the exact shade of her purse. Ballroom Barbie won't be shy of getting Prince Charming's attention possessing a gown which in human terms would be the equivalent of a $40,000 Giorgio Armani piece whom you would perhaps catch on the likes of Ashley Judd on the red carpet, the Oscars perhaps? Even aqua Barbie, I assume, would come with a marine scuba diving set, if such a Barbie indeed existed.
I dont know too much about Ken. Only had one Ken doll growing up. And that was just so Barbie had a boyfriend. Not that she needed one, because my barbie was independent , but the Barbie's at my school all had Ken's and I didn't want my own to feel neglected.

So, in conclusion, today's fashion lesson is to look towards a fake, plastic doll, whose proportions are unlike those of any woman I've ever known, which embodies everything that we are not, in order to parallel our fashion sense in accordance with.
Wait, that doesn't sound right.
We are not like Barbie's. One shoe size does not fit all in our homosapien world.
So if your lost, then I can't help you.
This blog was a waste of your time.
Thanks for reading.

Apologies

Hello my fellow blogees,
I must apologize. I havn't been keeping upto par with my blogs. Fashionista Mondays have been phased out by my very busy and very hectic work/school/internship schedule. To all my adoring fans - sorry. But let me tell you why I have been so busy!
I recently applied for a trip to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study advanced Spanish courses during my Christmas and New Year break. I was so busy filling out applications, requesting transcripts and writing essays that I neglected my fans. I've had no time for - gulp, fashion. I know, I know - I'm sorry. it will never happen again. Except for the months of December and January because I'm gonna be in Argentina baby! As it turns out, all the neglect was for the best because I was accepted, and I will now be on the beach, sipping a Margarita, and working on my tan, on New Years Eve, while you are home, freezing : ) HAHAHAHAHA
No, but on a nicer note. I'll miss you guys (and snow) . And if I get the chance to blog- I certainly will!
Muahhh 2 U...my adoring, loving and supportive fans! You know who you are .
Best,
Maya

Religion v. Politics - a quote

"As a candidate for public office, I chose not to place my beliefs in the center of my appeal for support because I am also a Jeffersonian; that is to say, I believe that one's religious beliefs - though they will and should affect one's outlook on public policy and life - are personal and that America is a secular, not a theocratic, republic. Because of this, it should concern us that declarations of "faith" are quickly becoming a condition for seeking public office.
Declarations of "faith" are abstractions that permit both voters and candidates to fill in the blanks with their own religious beliefs. There are two dangers here. One is the merging of church and state. The other is rank hypocrisy. Having claimed moral authority to achieve political victory, religious conservatives should be very careful, in their administration of the public trust, to live up to the standards they have claimed for themselves. They should also be called upon to address the teachings of Jesus and the prophets concerning care for the poor, the barriers that wealth presents to entering heaven, the blessings on the peacemakers, and the belief that no person should be left behind.
If we are to insert "faith" into the public dialogue more directly and assertively, let's not be selective. Let's go all the way. Let's not just define "faith" in terms of the law and judgment; let's define it also in terms of love, caring, forgiveness. Compassionate conservatives can believe social ills should be addressed by charity and the private sector; liberals can believe that the government has a role to play in correcting social injustice. But both can agree that human need, poverty, homelessness, illiteracy and sickness must be addressed. Liberals are not against religion. They are against hypocrisy, exclusion and judgmentalism. They resist the notion that one side or the other possesses "the truth" to the exclusion of others. There is a great difference between Cotton Mather and John Wesley."

Certainly am in accord with this man.
